The Longines Global Champions Tour at Giza: A Moment of Global Attention

On 29 January 2026 we sent a letter to the CEO of Longines to bring his attention to the animal welfare crisis in Egypt …

Why Egypt Equine Aid is taking this step

In October 2026, the Longines Global Champions Tour will take place beside the Pyramids of Giza, bringing exceptional sport horses and international attention to one of the world’s most iconic locations.  It is a moment when the global equestrian community will be watching Egypt.

We are sharing this letter (see below) publicly because moments like this offer a rare opportunity to highlight an issue that is otherwise largely unseen: the daily reality faced by thousands of working horses, donkeys, and camels living and working in the same area.

The Reality for Working Horses, Donkeys, and Camels in Egypt

At Egypt Equine Aid (EEA), we care for working equines in some of Egypt’s most disadvantaged communities every day.  We treat animals with severe wounds, untreated lameness, advanced disease, malnutrition, and exhaustion – conditions that persist largely because of poverty, limited access to veterinary care, and a lack of training and resources.

Why Egypt Equine Aid Has Contacted Longines

For this reason, we have written to Longines to ask whether they would consider supporting our efforts to raise awareness of the challenges facing working equines in Egypt.  Our intention is collaborative and constructive.  We recognise Longines’ long-standing involvement in equestrian sport and their influence within the global horse community, and we believe that such platforms can play a powerful role in encouraging compassion, understanding, and long-term improvement.

How Awareness Leads to Lasting Improvement in Equine Welfare

Increased awareness can lead to greater support for veterinary services, owner education, farrier training, and humane working practices – all of which make a measurable difference to animal welfare and community resilience.

Transparency, Advocacy, and Respect for Animals and Communities

We are publishing this letter in the spirit of transparency and advocacy, and out of respect for the animals who cannot speak for themselves, and the people whose livelihoods depend upon them.

This is why we have chosen to take this step.
